The primary goal of the Thomaston-Upson County Humane Society, Inc. is to relieve suffering and to reduce the number of unwanted animals in Upson County. The Humane Society raises money to help local citizens who are not financially able to have their pets spayed or neutered. It also assists pet owners with special needs to obtain veterinary care for a sick cat or dog. Referrals can be made through a local veterinarian. A financial assistance form can also be downloaded from this site.

When you email us, please include a phone number.

The Humane Society meets the first Tuesday of each month, excluding January and July, at 6:30 p.m. at the Civic Center in the Arts & Crafts room. Everyone is welcome to attend. Donations are tax deductible and can be sent to P.O. Box 1152.

Update Dog Shot with Arrow

An update on the emaciated Lab mix that was found shot with the arrow February 25th--

He had an arrow in his shoulder and a second wound in a rear leg. Both were at least a week old at that time. Gangrene had already set in, and he might need another operation, but the dog is expected to make a good recovery. Right now his shoulder is draining and he is on antibiotics.

The Upson Humane Society assumed responsibility for the dog's medical expenses. Surgery and extended medical care are not cheap. So the Humane Society was going to have to do some fundraising. But Tuesday, the vet let them know he is donating the dog's medical. Many thanks to Dr. Mike Pasley and all of his staff!

According to Smart Web, Upson County Animal Shelter manager, “The dog’s name is Bow. (Update: Web has changed the spelling. The dog's name is now Bo.) The county will adopt him and he will become the shelter dog. I’ll take him with me to schools and nursing homes, so he’ll be an instructional type pet. He will live at the shelter and he will go with me to different events.”

Dr. Al Simmons has added another $500 to the reward fund. As explained in a previous post, ACO/shelter manager Web is offering a $500 reward out of his own pocket for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for this dog's injuries.
